Card is a former High Point University golfer who frequents Long Island amateur golf events. He has been a caddie at National Golf Links and is a talented musician who can play seven instruments. Goldstein qualified for last month’s U.S. Mid-Amateur, made match play, but had to concede his first-round match because of a back injury.
The match ultimately turned in Card’s favor in the middle of the match when he won four consecutive holes from Nos. 7-10. Card went 4 up and dormie at No. 14 and won on the next hole.
Earlier in the week, Goldstein and Card tied for third in stroke-play qualifying with 3-over 75. Card won his first two matches on the 18th hole before getting through his semifinal match with a 4-and-3 win over Craig Brewer.
A year ago in this event, Card went down in the semifinals after taking finalist Brett Cooper to a 20th hole.
Senior Masters Division co-medalist Jay Sessa won his third (and second consecutive) title in that division when his co-finalist withdrew from the final match because of a scheduling conflict.
