Camaione gets first Alameda Commuters Senior title

James Camaione, of Upland, Calif., posted rounds of 71-74 for a 1-over par total to win the 32nd Alameda Commuters Senior Division. He edged Tony Padilla of Sacramento, Calif., by a single stroke.

Camaione held off a strong field from senior stalwarts such as Gary Vanier, Jim Knoll and Randy Haag on the newly renovated Corica Park South Course. All three chasers are decorated. Vanier is the defending champion while Knoll won the senior division of the San Francisco City Championship last month. Haag is an NCGA Hall of Famer with a long list of titles.

While Knoll and Haag tied for third at 6 over, along with John Mack of Alta Loma, Calif., Vanier was a little farther back. The Pleasant Hill, Calif., resident, who won the super senior division of this event just days ago, tied for 15th with his 11-over total.

This is Camaione’s first victory in the event. Vanier and Knoll have combined to win eight of the past 12 events.
