The Cincinnati-native won his second consecutive and third overall Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship on Wednesday at Sylvania (Ohio) Country Club. His 14-under score of 202 (68-66-68) was good for a three-stroke victory over Brett Kaufman, who carded rounds of 70-65-70 to finish at 11-under 205.
Williamson and Kaufman began the final round separated by just one stroke and had well-distanced themselves from the field. Williamson was nursing a two-stroke lead through 13 holes before throwing down the gauntlet with a string of birdies on holes 15, 16 and 17 to solidify his second consecutive Ohio Mid-Amateur title.
For Williamson, who was the runner-up to Mike McCoy in the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur, the win at Sylvania Country Club adds to his impressive resume with includes wins at the Ohio Mid-Amateur Public Links (2012), the Greater Cincinnati Amateur (2012), the Greater Cincinnati Mid-Amateur (5x), the Northern Kentucky Amateur (twice) and the Cincinnati Four-Ball (4x). In addition to the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur, he also has runner-up finishes at the Crump Cup (2017) and the Stocker Cup (2017).
