ROCKY FACE, Ga. — Auburn got its fall season off to a nice start on Sunday, winning the Georgia Tech-hosted Carpet Capital Collegiate by nine shots thanks to steady play throughout the tournament.
Auburn trailed second-round leaders Alabama by three shots, but shot the lowest round of the final day by four, which was 30 strokes better than the Crimson Tide. The Tigers finished with just one player inside the top-10, incoming freshman Jacob Solomon. Rounds of 73-73-72 from the Dublin, Calif. native gave him a 10th place finish as the first-year player had his rounds counted all three days.
Thirty-six hole leaders Alabama fell apart in the final round as their leading player, freshman Davis Riley, shot the team's lowest score on Sunday — 78. The team dropped into sixth place after leading by three at the beginning of the day.
Finishing between Auburn and Alabama were Clemson in second, South Carolina in third, defending champion LSU in fourth, and host Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets were well-represented by their sophomore Jacob Joiner, who captured the individual title by a stroke over the Clemson duo of Stephen Behr and Austin Langdale.
