Anderson tops shortened Long Island Mid-Amateur

Colby Anderson of Nassau Country Club fired a round of 1-under 69 to win the weather-shortened Long Island Mid-Amateur

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2018) – Colby Anderson of Nassau Country Club fired a round of 1-under 69 to emerge victorious at the weather-shortened Long Island Mid-Amateur Championship at North Hempstead Country Club. Unfortunately, heavy rain fall forced the championship to be shortened to 18 holes.

Playing in the morning round, Anderson got off to a hot start by pouring in a birdie on the par-3 second. He kept up his consistent play by rattling off seven consecutive pars en route to an outward nine of 1-under 34. Minor slip ups on the inward nine came in the form of bogeys on hole Nos. 11 and 13, however Anderson was able to rebound nicely on both occasions by carding a birdie on No. 12 and an eagle on No. 14.

Anderson finished the day as the only player in red figures despite carding an additional bogey on the par-3 17th. This victory marks Anderson’s second of the year, as he hoisted the Long Island Amateur trophy back in June.

Kevin Talty of Smithtown Landing, Kevin Dolph of Garden City GC, and Steven Tarulli of Hempstead shared second place honors thanks to rounds of 1-over 71.
