LOMPOC, CA (October 15, 2017) - Alton Anderson of Thousand Oaks won the Santa Barbara County Amateur Championship by one shot at La Purisima Golf Club.
Anderson, who played college golf at BYU, shot a two-round total of two-over 146, one shot ahead of Brandon Gama of Santa Barbara.
La Purisima has long been known as one of the toughest championship tests in amateur golf, and its reputation stayed intact this weekend, allowing only two scores under 150. Nico Bollini of Laguna Beach and Ethan Ashbrook of Santa Maria tied for third at 150, six over par.
The defending champion Ramie Sprinkling of Camarillo, who shot a final-round 70 to win by two shots last year, finished alone in fifth at 151. Keith Moles of Santa Maria was sixth at 152, with Ben Tumbel of Goleta and Matt Murray of Palm Desert tied for seventh at 154.
It was another close call for Gama, who also finished runner-up in 2014 and has had top-five finishes in 2008, 2012 and 2013.
In the Net Division, Steve Yavorsky won by two shots at three-over 147, with Chris Giouard second at 149.
Marc Watts was third at 152, followed by Tom Conklin and David Vanderhorst tied for fourth at 153, and Howard Hall and Tom Braun tied for sixth at 154.
