The World No. 1 discusses Augusta National Women's Am, Curtis Cup, and college golf
In this engaging conversation, Lottie Woad shares her experiences and insights on her golf journey, including her recent performances, the impact of the LEAP program, and her reflections on winning at Augusta National.
She is currently the No. 1 ranked player in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
She discusses her preparation for upcoming tournaments, the importance of team dynamics in the Curtis Cup, and her transition to college golf at Florida State. Lottie emphasizes the significance of confidence, process-oriented goals, and the value of learning from both past experiences and professional players.
On Winning the Augusta National Women's Amateur and Its Impact:
“I think just that win gave me a lot of confidence just in myself and even just the ability that I can come from behind. And when the going gets tough, I can kind of get it back. Just knowing that I can make some clutch putts and stuff like that under pressure, I think just kind of helped me throughout the year.”
On Playing Tough Golf Courses Like Carnoustie and Augusta National:
“I really like tough golf courses. My long game and approaches are my strength. I feel like if you're pretty good at that, you can kind of get around a lot of hard courses just by hitting greens and stuff like that. And I feel like I minimize my mistakes pretty well, which is obviously crucial for those types of courses.”
On College Golf and Learning Course Management:
“I used to be a pretty big pin seeker when maybe you shouldn't be on some occasions… It's more just picking smart targets and committing to them and being really specific as well—not just saying, aim right a bit, actually having a target in mind and having that target based off the dispersion that you have on that club.”
On Advice to Her Younger Self About College Golf:
“Just enjoy it, because I can't believe how quickly it's gone by. From coming in freshman year and now I'm in the spring of my junior year, it's gone by so fast. So, just trying to enjoy it and take in all the resources that you're offered, because we're pretty lucky at college.”
