The world No. 1 already has his PGA Tour card locked up and it will be waiting for him in May 2025
Gordon Sargent will return to Vanderbilt for his senior year. The No. 1 ranked amateur in the AmateurGolf/Golfweek rankings already has a PGA Tour card locked up through PGA Tour University accelerated program. He earned the required 20 points through various performances and team selections.
The decision contrasts with Nick Dunlap, who took his PGA Tour card and left Alabama this winter after winning the American Express. Of course, Dunlap's exemptions were tough to pass up, as he was granted spots in signature events for his victory.
“I think there were a lot of expectations this year, and we’re looking forward to the postseason, but I think just staying another year, being a senior, enjoying the college life and while also knowing there’s a PGA Tour card still waiting for you, it gives you a lot of freedom if you need to make some changes and stuff,” Sargent said. “Then off the golf course, just continue to mature as a person and better prepare myself for the future.”
Sargent won the Mason Rudolph in early April, the first victory of his junior year. According to Scoreboard, Vanderbilt is the second-ranked team. As a freshman, Sargent won the NCAA individual championship and earned a spot in the 2023 Masters. He also earned low amateur in the U.S. Open at Los Angeles CC.
