Helen Briem, who is ranked 19th on the AmateurGolf.com/Golfweek rankings, shot 18-under 274 following rounds of 67-66-68-73 to register a win by a four-stroke margin at the 94th Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship at the Sir Henry Cotton course at the Penina Golf Resort in Portimao, Portugal.
Moa Stridh of Sweden carded rounds of 77-71-62-68 to finish in solo second place at 14-under par.
The 18-year-old German entered the final round with a commanding eight-stroke lead at 18-under over Lorna McClymont of Scotland, who trailed at 10-under. While Moa Stridh contributed a tournament-low 11-under 62 in her third round and catapulted up the leaderboard into third place. Shortly after, Briem posted a final round score of even par 73, compared to Stridh's 5-under 68, securing the four-shot win.
Briem has enjoyed an extraordinary amateur career thus far. In 2023, she clinched victory in the R&A Girls Amateur Championship and was a pivotal member of the triumphant Junior Ryder Cup team representing Europe. In 2022, Briem emerged victorious in the European Nations Cup - Copa Sotogrande. Subsequently, at the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship - the Espirito Santo Trophy, she jointly secured the best individual score alongside Rose Zhang and Meja Ortengren. Additionally, Briem earned a bronze medal with her German team.
Balma Davalos Guaita of Spain and Meja Ortengren of Sweden shot matching total scores of 13-under par to finish T3.
The team section of the tournament, the Nations Cup, was secured by Team Sweden III, composed of Blondie Lidgren, Moa Stridh, and Nathalle Borg. They collectively carded rounds of 149-140-134, accumulating a total score of 15-under 423 over the three days of competition.
Team Sweden II, featuring Havanna Torstensson, Matilda Bjorkman, and Nora Sundberg, finished 12-under, earning them a runner-up finish in the category.
It is an "A"-rated tournament in the amateur world, serving as a qualifying event for the European teams in the Junior Ryder Cup and Junior Solheim Cup. As a result, it typically attracts one of the stronger international fields among continental European amateur championships.
