As we welcome a New Year, we are reminded golf is a game for all ages.

From fresh-faced rising stars to grizzled veterans, our players of the month for December span some 50 years of age. Three Floridians and two teenagers from the Southern Hemisphere rose to the top as we closed out another amazing year in amateur golf.

AmateurGolf.com's Players of the Month for December 2022

CHRISTIAAN MAAS
The University of Texas freshman made history at the South African Open when he joined Neville Sundelson (1974) and Masters champion Charl Schwartzel (2002) to become only the third amateur to win the English Men’s Open Amateur Stroke Play and the Freddie Tait Cup as the low amateur at the South African Open in the same calendar year. The 19-year-old Pretoria golfer capped off the month by tying for 17th at the Alfred Dunhill Cup to take low amateur honors.

KEN KINKOPF
The Jupiter, Fla. native enjoyed a tremendous three-week run in his home state. After winning the Golfweek Senior TOC in a playoff over Ryan Howison at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, he finished second to Doug Hanzel at the SOS Ralph Bogart in North Palm Beach and then won the Golfweek Senior Challenge Cup by five strokes over AGC Senior Player of the Year Rusty Strawn in Plantation.

STEVE HUMPHREY
The Ocala, Fla. native won the Golfweek Super Senior TOC by 14 shots and then made it two in a row with another win at the Golfweek Senior Challenge Cup, where he defeated Tim Vigotsky on the first playoff hole. He wrapped up the month by tying for third in the super senior division of the Dixie Senior & Mid-Master Invitational.

JENEATH WONG
The Australian junior champion had quite a month down under. After tying for 26th at the Australian Women's Open, Wong registered wins at the Port Phillip Women's Open Amateur and the Victorian Women's Amateur in back-to-back weeks. Wong has committed to Pepperdine University and will be on campus in at the start of the new year.

LUKE CLANTON
Clanton, a freshman at Florida State, clipped 14-year-old Henry Guan on the first playoff to win the South Beach International Amateur, marking his third major win of the season following first-place finishes at the Azalea Amateur in March and the North & South Amateur in July.
