Stacy Lewis has signed on to captain the U.S. team at the Spirit International, a world team event to be played Nov. 7-9 at the renowned Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. Lewis being a Texas native and current resident, it seems the perfect fit.
The event features teams representing 20 countries and showcases the world’s best women and men amateur golfers. Organizers have worked to create an Olympic-like experience that includes opening and closing ceremonies as well as team get-togethers throughout the week. Camp Olympia, one of the premier summer camps in the U.S., provides International Village accommodations for the competitors. The tournament was established in 2001 at Whispering Pines.
Lewis had a decorated amateur and college career, which included winning the NCAA individual title while at Arkansas. She welcomed her first child, daughter Chesnee, in October and finished sixth at last month’s Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, her first start as a mom. Lewis currently ranks ninth on the LPGA’s career money list and sixth among active players.

Lewis also was invited by Whispering Pines Golf Club’s founder Corby Robertson, Jr. to serve as an ambassador for the inaugural Spirit Charity Challenge to be played at the club on Oct. 7. Some of The Spirit International’s top alumni will return to compete in an event that will award the winner a prize of $100,000 to donate to the charity of his or her choice.
“We are proud of the success we’ve had to date in bringing the world’s top women and men to compete for their countries at the No. 1 rated golf course in Texas,” said Robertson. “Our commitment is to promote global goodwill through the game of golf. The friendships made and memories shared among the participants make for an all-world experience. I believe The Spirit International has made an immeasurable impact on the global golfers, volunteers and sponsors who participate.”
