Mandur closes in 10-under 62, rallies to win Coral Canyon

Tristan Mandur went from four back to title holder on Saturday at the Coral Canyon Amateur

WASHINGTON, UT (January 13, 2018) - Four back at the beginning of the Coral Canyon Amateur final round Utah freshman Tristan Mandur knew he needed to do something big if he wanted to have a chance at the title. Well you could say he certainly did that something big. On Saturday at the Coral Canyon Golf Course Mandur put together a flawless 10-under 62 to move from even-par after the first round to two clear of the rest of the field and the champion. Mandur, 10-under overall, didn't waste anytime starting his final round charge as he birdied his first two holes and then never looked back. Additional birdies fell on the 5th and 6th holes and then after a fifth birdie on No. 9 Mandur turned in 5-under 31. The birdie on the 9th was the beginning of a stretch that included six birdies in eight holes, including four in a row from Nos. 9-12. From Mill Bay, British Columbia, Mandur has had a solid start to his collegiate career. During the fall season Mandur played in four events finishing inside the top-20 three-times with his best showing coming at the Nick Watney Invitational where he shared sixth. First round leader Fidel Concepcion finished in second place at 8-under following consecutive rounds of 4-under 68. Concepcion played well on Saturday birdieing five-times and bogeying just once but his dropped shot on the 14th proved to be costly. A senior at Southern Utah, Concepcion attempted to make a late run but birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 proved to be to little to late. Mitchell Schow (Utah) took third at 3-under while six others shared fourth at even-par.
