Michael Makris extends Indiana Amateur Advantage
FISHERS, IN (June 21, 2017) - After moving day at the 117th Indiana Amateur Championship, two players have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
Michael Makris leads for the third consecutive round after firing a third round 2-under-par 70 for a 7-under-par total and four shot lead heading to the final round at The Hawthorns G&CC.
Makris, seeking his Indiana Amateur win and first ever Indiana Golf win, is followed by Brett Widner, the only other player under par for the event, at 3-under-par following a round of even-par 72. Widner, who has won seven career individual Indiana Golf titles, is also looking for his first Indiana Amateur victory. The pair will be joined by Graham McAree in the final group tomorrow.
ROUND ONE RECAP
After two rounds of the 117th Indiana Amateur Championship, Michael Makris of South Bend has taken a three-shot lead after posting rounds of 69-70 for a 5-under-par total at The Hawthorns G&CC.
Makris, a rising Senior at Ball State University, made five birdies on the day and was a many as 7-under-par until a bogey-double bogey stretch at the 15th and 16th holes. Makris, however, responded with a birdie at the difficult 17th. His birdies came on Nos. 3, 4, 6 9, 11 and 17.
Trevar Denney and Brett Widner are the only two players under-par and at 2-under they are tied for second while Ben Resler at even-par sits and forth and the 1-over Sean Rowen holds the fifth spot.
The field has been cut to 63 players, with everyone at 158 (+14) or better surviving to play the final two rounds. Makris will be paired in the final group with Trevar Denny and Brett Widner who both sit at 2-under-par for the tournament.
