Pepperdine sophomore Sahith Theegala has been named the February Amateur of the Month by the Southern Golf Association
BIRMINGHAM, AL (March 13, 2017) –- Pepperdine sophomore Sahith Theegala has been named the February Amateur of the Month by the Southern Golf Association.
Theegala secured his first collegiate win last month during the Southwestern Invitational where the Pepperdine Waves won by 16 strokes over USC.
Additionally, Theegala, the only amateur in the field, made the cut at the PGA Tour's Genesis Open after earning an exemption by winning the Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase. The day after the completion of the Genesis Open Theegala returned to collegiate golf and three days later he finished inside the top-20 at The Prestige at PGA West.
Winners of the SGA’s monthly award are determined by a blue-ribbon national panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. Now in its 14th season, notable recipients have been Bill Haas, Michelle Wie, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J. B. Holmes, Webb Simpson, Rhys Davies, Kyle Stanley, Kevin Fortin-Simard, Rickie Fowler, Danny Lee, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Alice Hewson, and more recently Lee McCoy & Aaron Wise.
