FootJoy DryJoys Tour review

Amateurgolf.com member Richard Davison almost gave up on FootJoy when they stopped producing the all-leather Classic. But he has found a new favorite in the DryJoys Tour.

When FootJoy announced 3 years ago that they would not be making Classics any longer, I was devastated. They were the benchmark in golf shoes; they were comfortable and like an old pair of jeans, got better with age. Their ICON line was launched shortly after Classic production stopped, and FootJoy tauted them as the new "classic." I was skeptical, but tried them out and found them to be nothing like Classics. Having worn FootJoys for many years, I moved away and started wearing Adidas. However, with the launch of the new DryJoys Tour, FootJoy has created a shoe that is a much better replacement to the classics. First of all, the FootJoy emblem is back where it should be, towards the top of the shoe where you tie the laces, not on the heel. The soft and supple leather is back inside the shoe; gone is the microfiber look. Although not a leather-soled shoe, the look of the upper is more like the old classics; a truly timeless design. The advancement in technology on the sole of the shoe creates better stability and all-around motion. Comfort is taken to another level too; the shoe seems to hug your foot, giving you that worn in feeling. In short, FootJoy took a couple of years to come up with a replacement for the Classic, in the interim telling us that the ICON was it, but in my opinion, the DryJoys Tour is the new must have pair of shoes on the market. -- submitted by Richard Davison, Sonoma, CA
