To celebrate its semicentennial, Cobra debuted a sleek version of the new Aerojet driver in a black and gold color scheme that screams class. The limited edition models are available in the standard Aerojet as well as the LS (low spin) model and will retail for $599. We had the pleasure of testing the non-anniversary version of the Cobra Aerojet and were thoroughly impressed. Check out our thoughts here.
The Baffler: Credited as the first utility club, this wooden shot-saver was produced in 1975 and paved the way for what is now a mainstay in golf bags everywhere.
Extended-length driver: In 1979, Cobra was the first manufacturer to extend the length of the driver to 46 inches. It included a graphite head and shaft.
Stock graphite: In 1985, not only did Cobra develop the Lady Cobra line, but it also became the first company to offer graphite as a stock shaft in woods and irons.
Autoclave system: An incredible advancement in shaft technology, this system allowed Cobra to strengthen and pure graphite shafts.
Greg Norman: In 1991, “The Shark” himself joined Cobra and assisted in the development of the brand’s first forged iron.
Oversized irons: In 1994, Cobra developed its oversized irons which are credited for creating a new genre of irons.
1996 A big year for Cobra as it introduced not only the King Cobra II irons but also the Ti Offset woods.
Heading into 2000: In 1999, Gravity Back woods and irons hit the market featuring back weighting and a new take on MOI.
SS: Cobra grabbed a top-three spot in the metals market with the release of the Cobra SS line.
Tour play: Geoff Ogilvy, Ian Poulter, J.B. Holmes, Camilo Villegas, Kevin Na, and Jeong Jang joined the Cobra tour staff in 2006.
Lexi Thompson: After Cobra joined forces with PUMA, Lexi Thompson chose to endorse both companies for equipment and apparel in 2011. One year later, Rickie Fowler joined her.
AMP, BIO, and FLY: Three of the most recent cult classics produced by Cobra include the Amp line (2013), BIO Cell, (2014), and FLY-Z (2015).
One Length: In 2017, Cobra produced its famous line of One Length irons which were played by staffer Bryson DeChambeau.
