San Francisco City Championship
The Open Flights offer the SF City experience for players who want a bracket competition against golfers grouped by Handicap Index. They are a distinct route through the championship, with an emphasis on head-to-head play rather than earning a place in the marquee Men’s field.
The 108-player entry is divided into handicap-seeded flights. Play starts with knockout matches, without a stroke-play qualifier. A win keeps you in the draw; a loss ends your run.
Rounds are scheduled March 13–14 and March 20–21. Harding Park and Lincoln Park host play; the final is at Harding. Check your pairing for the correct venue.
Our advice: approach each hole as a new contest. A poor hole need not define the match, and the right decision depends partly on where your opponent stands. Before play, confirm the competition’s handicap and tee instructions rather than assuming your usual club-match arrangements apply.
These flights sit within a championship founded in 1917. George Archer, a City winner who later won the Masters, is among the figures whose names connect today’s flights with that history. Lincoln’s coastal setting and Harding’s Lake Merced surroundings make the venues part of the experience.
Entry is $245; an active AmateurGolf.com membership is required separately. Review the registration form before paying. Check your email and the official results page for tee times and pairings.
