The Griesedieck Men’s Championship is one of the St. Louis District’s premier amateur events, featuring 36 holes of stroke play qualifying before the low 16 players advance to match play for the Alvin Griesedieck Trophy. Named in honor of Alvin Griesedieck, whose family name is tied to St. Louis brewing history, the championship has long been a proving ground for the area’s top male amateurs. Its past champions include standout names such as Bob Goalby, Jay Haas, and Jim Holtgrieve, connecting the event’s local tradition to some of the most accomplished players in St. Louis golf history.
