U.S. Open Local Qualifying

2026 U.S. Open Local Qualifying is the first stage of the USGA’s two-part qualifying process for the 126th U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. Conducted across more than 100 sites in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, local qualifying features 18-hole stroke play competitions open to both professionals and elite amateurs with a Handicap Index® of 0.4 or better. Thousands of players compete for a limited number of advancing spots into Final Qualifying, making it one of the most competitive and accessible pathways in championship golf. Often referred to as the embodiment of the U.S. Open’s tradition as “the most open championship in golf,” local qualifying showcases rising amateur talent, aspiring professionals, and seasoned competitors all pursuing a place in the national championship.
