The Walton Heath Trophy is a premium elite amateur stroke play championship for men and women, run simultaneously – a rare format in elite amateur golf that reflects equality and modern tournament values.
The Trophy is presented in honour of Jill Thornhill, Walton Heath’s most decorated female golfer and current Club President. Widely regarded as one of England’s finest amateurs, Jill’s achievements include playing in three Curtis Cups (winning twice) and captaining the side in 1990, winning the British and English Amateurs, and claiming the Smyth Salver. She represented England nine times in the Home Internationals (five victories), played four European Team Championships (two wins), and featured in four Vagliano Trophies (three wins). Remarkably, Jill won the Surrey Women’s Amateur Championship 16 times between 1962 and 1997. A truly outstanding player and cherished member of Walton Heath Golf Club.
