What's the difference between SCGA and NCGA?
Both are USGA-recognized state golf associations. SCGA covers Southern California, NCGA covers Northern California. Pick the one that matches where you play most often — or get both if you compete in events across the state. Your handicap is portable either way, but your association membership funds the regional events you're likely playing.
I'm not in California — do I need a state handicap?
Not from us. The Member + California tier is specifically for California players. Members elsewhere typically already have a handicap through a local club or another state association. Tour eligibility and our membership tools don't require a handicap from us. If you'd like AmateurGolf to offer a handicap partnership in your state, let us know.
Can I add a state handicap later?
Yes. Upgrade from Member to Member + California at any time from your account settings. We'll prorate the difference for your current period.
Is the lifetime really lifetime?
Yes. One payment, no renewals, no rate increases, no expiration. The $100 Two-Man Links credit is single-use and good for one calendar year from purchase. The membership itself doesn't expire — if you stop competing for a decade and come back, your account is still active.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Reader, Annual, 6-month, and 3-year plans all cancel from your account settings and keep access through the end of the paid period. Member + California cancellations also stop the state association renewal at the end of the current term. Lifetime doesn't renew, so there's nothing to cancel.
Does membership cover tournament entry fees?
No. Membership unlocks AmateurGolf's tools, data, articles, and AG Tour event eligibility. Entry fees for the events themselves go to each organizing body and are paid separately at registration.
What happens to my saved tournaments and schedule if I cancel?
They stay in your account. If you re-subscribe later they're all there. You just lose access to gated content while your membership is inactive.
What's the difference between Reader and Member?
Reader ($25/yr) is for fans who want to read and follow: every paywalled article ad-free, full live leaderboards with scoreboard links, and the top 100 of each ranking with player profiles. Member ($99/yr) adds the competitor toolkit — the complete rankings beyond the top 100, every player's full record and per-event ranking results, strength-of-field and cut-line analysis, the Schedule Builder, and AG Tour event eligibility. You can upgrade from Reader to Member anytime and we'll prorate what you've paid.
Can I just browse for free?
Anyone can browse tournament listings, live leaderboards, and the top of the rankings without an account. Most articles are paywalled — reading the full archive starts at the $25 Reader plan. There's no free account to sign up for; you join at the plan that fits.
