Williams jumps to 36-hole Western Amateur lead

Chris Williams of Idaho, fresh off a win at the Pacific Coast Amateur, shoots a pair of 66s to lead by 3

Chris Williams once again showed the kind of game that helped him qualify for the U.S. Open, (he was medalist at his sectional qualifying) then win the Sahalee Players and Pacific Coast Amateur titles. After shooting two straight rounds of 66 at North Shore Country Club, Williams has the attention of the field, and likely Walker Cup Captain Jim Holtgrieve, who was in attendance at the Pacific Coast Amateur in California to witness Williams' win firsthand. Two rounds of medal play are left and should Williams win, he will surely latch onto one of the remaining 6 USA Walker Cup team picks. Behind him at 135 is Jordan Spieth, another hopeful USA team member, fresh off a 2nd US Junior win in three years.
