Top Teams are Ready for Sixth Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

Set to begin on Friday and run until Sunday, the 17 team event features seven teams currently ranked in the Golfstat Top-15

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (March 2, 2017) -- Now in its sixth year the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate has become one of the premiere women's college golf tournaments in the country and this year will be no different. Set to begin on Friday and run until Sunday, the 17 team event features seven teams currently ranked in the Golfstat Top-15.

Headlining the field this weekend at Long Cove Club is the defending champion Alabama and they are once again being led by 2016 medalist winner Cheyenne Knight. Ranked fifth in the country, Alabama won the first two Darius Rucker Intercollegiate's in 2012 and 2013 before reclaiming the top spot again last year.

No. 18 Duke is the only other team to win the title, capturing the event in 2014 and 2015, and they are scheduled to return as well.

Joining the past champions in an NCAA Championship caliber field this weekend are No. 6 Furman, No. 8 Georgia, No. 10 Arizona State, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 12 Arkansas, host No. 14 South Carolina, No. 16 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Baylor, No. 32 Tennessee, No. 34 North Carolina, No. 40 Auburn, No. 55 Vanderbilt, No. 57 Mississippi State, No. 58 Virginia and No. 68 LSU.

Part of what makes the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate one of the premier events of the season is the venue. Long Cove Club is a Pete Dye designed layout that plays as a 6,243 yard par- 71 track. The championship level course offers pristine conditions with perfectly rolling but difficult greens. Each year the course membership supports the event by volunteering for and attending the event.
