Tarpley opens with 66 at Tennessee State Amateur

Austin Peay senior has one-shot lead after round one

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (August 5, 2014) — In an event won last year by 2012 U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox, Austin Peay University senior Trey Tarpley opened up the tournament with a four-under par round of 66, holding a one-stroke advantage at the Tennessee State Amateur. Taylor Smith sits one stroke behind after a 67 on Tuesday, while two others — Jack Smith and Taylor Davis — are two strokes behind Tarpley with two-under par 68s. Last year's winner Fox is now a member of the Web.com Tour and has played in three events in 2014, making one cut at the Midwest Classic where he tied for 49th place.
