SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Febrary 15, 2010)--High school player Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz is Medalist; he and sixty-three players advanced through final qualifying to join exempt defending champion Carlos Briones in Saturday's first round of match play
Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz, who has signed a letter of intent to play college golf at the University of Washington, was the medalist at Lincoln Park Golf Course. McElyea fired rounds of 70-68 to finish one shot ahead of George Gandranata, Taylor Travis, and pre-qualifying medalist Mac McClung.
1999 San Francisco City champion Randy Haag advanced with rounds of 69-75, while 1995-1996 champion Jim Evans also advanced with rounds of 73-76. Jamie Core, last year's runner-up to Briones, advanced with rounds of 75-70.
The first round of match play is set for Saturday, February 20 at Harding Park Golf Course. Match play will continue each weekend until the final two players play for the championship on Sunday, March 7.
