Record in sight for Johnson at State Fair

Pace Johnson of Fresno fires 8-under 64 on Sunday; he takes a 5-shot lead into the final round and has a shot at breaking the tournament scoring record at historic Sacramento event

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2010) -- Pace Johnson of Fresno posted a 64 in the second round of the California State Fair Amateur today on top of his opening 66, putting him at the top of the leaderboard with a 5-shot cushion heading into the final round at the Alister MacKenzie course at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. Johnson, a sophomore at Cal Poly -- where he earned Mountain West Conference Freshman Player of the Year honors -- will have no cruise to the finish line though. A top field of players who can go low are clustered at 135, 136, and 137. Jake Johnson of Cameron Park, Calif. (Sacramento State) and Richard Lamb of South Bend, Indiana are both at 135. TOURNAMENT NOTES: - As low as Pace Johnson went over two rounds, it was Michael Weaver of Fresno who grabbed a piece of history by shooting a course-record 63 Sunday at the Alister MacKenzie course.
