MSU Men's Golf Coach Wins Second MS State Amateur at 13 Under Par

HATTIESBURG, MISS (June 12, 2005) -- Clay Homan of Starkville, shot 8 under par in the final round finish at 13 under par 275 to beat Matt Fast of Hattiesburg. Fast bogeyed the last hole to shoot 11 under par 277. Fast will be a freshman on the Men's golf team at MSU in the fall. Homan was just reinstated as an amateur player in Early May. Homan was forced to enter the OPEN qualifier at Hattiesburg CC on Monday to compete in the State Amateur. Clay qualified for the last spot with even par 72 on Monday. The extra day of competition probably helped me to be prepared this week", said Homan. Michael Stringer won the medalist trophy with a 66 in the opening round. Canebrake CC won the Charles Green Team trophy with the combined scores of Matt Fast and Just Elliott of 276. The playing conditions on the final day were perfect.
