Jones Cup Invitational final results

List wins in a playoff

SEA ISLAND, Ga. (Feb. 4, 2007)-- The 2007 Jones Cup Invitational was captured in dramatic fashion yesterday by Luke List in a one-hole playoff. List, a senior at Vanderbilt University, started the day three shots back of second-round leader Gary Woodland. Woodland, of Kansas University, led the tournament until the 13th hole where he made a double-bogey to fall back into a tie with List. List managed to pull ahead with a birdie on the par-5 15th hole. Entering the 18th hole, a 545-yard par 5, both players reached the green in two shots from 175 yards. When List's eagle putt slid by the hole it allowed Woodland to put the pressure by sinking his 15-foot eagle putt. List confidently rolled in the 7-foot comeback birdie putt to force a sudden-death playoff on the 18th hole, setting the stage for some playoff dramatics. Facing similar third shots from just off the green, Luke struck first by chipping to within 2-feet of the cup. Woodland played a wonderful shot, leaving a testy 6-foot putt. When Woodland's putt skimmed the high-side, List confidently rolled in his putt to win the championship. The two competitors finished the tournament at 10-under par (206).Michael Thompson (University of Alabama) and Rob Grube (Stanford University) finished tied for third at 5-under (211). List joins a distinguished list of past champions including D.J.Trahan, Gregg Jones, and Nicholas Thompson. The 2007 Jones Cup Invitational, was comprised of an elite field of junior, collegiate, and mid-amateur competitors from eight countries, including 18 of the 24 players from the US Walker Cup team practice squad.
