In S. Carolina, Four tied atop Rice Planters leaderboard

John Driscoll, Owen Stamper, Canon Claycomb, and Jackson Chandler all opened with 4-under 68 at Snee Farm Country Club

Day one of the Rice Planters Amateur saw plenty of red numbers on Tuesday. With the event trimmed from its usual 72-holes to 54-holes, a hot start will help come rounds two and three with as stacked a field as Snee Farm CC has seen. Rising sophomore John Driscoll (Northwestern), rising junior Jackson Chandler (Ohio State), Canon Claycomb (Alabama), and incoming Middle Tennessee State freshman Owen Stamper all fired 4-under 68s. Chandler scored the only bogey-free round out of the four leaders with birdies on holes 4, 6, 9, and 10 to carry momentum into tomorrow. Defending champ Austin Fulton (Mississippi State rising senior) is just two shots back of the leaders alongside six others after carding an opening-round 70. Starting hot with three straight birdies to begin the tournament, Fulton simmered down with bogeys on four and five before making a birdie on nine to go out in 34. Coming in with a 36, Fulton bogeyed No. 11 and sandwiched another bogey on No. 14 with birdies on No. 13 and 14, putting him well within striking range as the field heads into Wednesday’s round. In total, there were 29 of the 67 rounds played were at or under par on Tuesday, with 19 of those scores in red numbers.
