PINE VALLEY, New Jersey (October 1, 2006) -- Rains that swept through New Jersey on Sunday forced tournament officials at the 2006 Crump Cup to make the best of a tough situation.
With no chance of playing two rounds of match play, which would be required to complete semifinal and final match play rounds across 8 divisions, the format was changed to an 18-hole medal play round, with the low player among the four semifinalists in each division being declared the winner of that division. Carlton Forrester (the qualifying medalist) of Birmingham, Alabama won the overall title by 1 stroke over Gene Elliott and Michael McCoy (both of W. DesMoines, Iowa) while Randy Reifers won the Senior Division championship by 3 at 71. Reifers was also qualifying medalist during the 36 hole medal play portion of the event. McCoy was just one stroke from a chance to "three peat" -- McCoy won the event in 2004 and 2005.
