PINE VALLEY, NJ (Sept 30, 2006) -- Two rounds of match play were completed on Saturday at the Crump Cup, leaving several interesting showdowns on the books for Sunday's semifinal rounds.
In the Championship Flight, medalist Carlton Forrester of Alabama advanced by defeating James Bryan of Latrobe, Penn. (the hometown of none other than Arnold Palmer), 5 & 4, and then edging Stuart Smith of Nashville, 2 & 1. Forrester will face Chip Lutz of Reading, Penn. on Sunday morning.
Two-time defending champ Mike McCoy of W. Des Moines, Iowa took 20 holes to defeat Michael Goodes, then defeated John McClure of Austin, Texas 3 & 2. McCoy will fellow Iowan Gene Elliott (also of W. Des Moines) on Sunday morning.
In the other flights, the most interesting match on Sunday morning will be USA Walker Cup Captain George "Buddy" Marucci Jr. of New Jersey vs. Trip Kuehne of Texas -- recent US Amateur semifinalist Kuehne had the most lopsided qualifying rounds of the field in shooting 85-70, which placed him in flight no. 3.
In the Senior Division, medalist Randy Reifers advanced over Allan Small, while in Senior flight no. 2 Pine Valley president O. Gordon Brewer advanced over Kent Frandsen, 1-up.
