Cameron Davis stays hot, medals at New South Wales Amateur

Fresh off a victory at the Australian Men's Amateur, where he defeated Tyler Hodge of New Zealand on the 37th hole, Davis medaled at the rain-shortened New South Wales Amateur on Saturday with a two-day total of 135. With rounds of 66 and 69 at Monash and Killara golf clubs in his home state of New South Wales, Davis has ascended to a rank of 34 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, and currently has an impressive lead in the 2015 Player-of-the-Year race. The tournament was scheduled for 72 holes of stroke play, followed by a 32-player match play event. But rain on day one forced the stroke play portion of the event to be cut in half, with match play beginning Sunday morning at Avondale Golf Club. UPDATED MATCH PLAY BRACKET Finishing in second place to Davis in stroke play qualifying were Paul Howard of England and Justin Warren of Australia, who was a semifinalist at last week's Australian Men's Amateur. Other notable players making match play were Ben Stow and Nick Marsh of England, and Brayden Petersen and Troy Moses of Australia. Marsh is currently ranked 13th in the world after medaling last week at the Australian Men's Amateur, though he was upset in the first round.
