Amateurs come up empty at Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. (April 6, 2007)-- The difficult conditions that led to across-the-board high scores at the 2007 Masters didn't spare the five amateur players who received invitations, with none of them able to make the cut. John Kelly, a senior at the University of Missouri and runner-up at the 2006 US Amateur, was the low amateur, carding 77-77--144, tied for 70th. He missed the cut by only two strokes. He made six birdies over the two-day stretch, but got into the most trouble at the start of Amen Corner, the 505-yard, par 4, 11th hole, going down five strokes over two days. Playing with defending champ Phil Mickelson in accordance with Masters tradition, Richie Ramsay, the winner of last year's US Am, was in decent shape to make weekend play after a first-round 76, but finished Friday with a 80 for a 156 total. The other amateurs were Julian Guerrier (83-81--164), Casey Watabu (87-78--165), and Dave Womack (84-81--165). For full results, click on the "see also" link and use the results tab.
