A Closer look at the NCAA Women's Regional Sites

(May 4, 2017) - With the NCAA Division I Women's Regionals getting underway on Monday here is a closer look at the four sites that will be hosting play from May 8-10. Each site will feature 18 teams and six individuals with the top-six teams from each site and the top-three individuals not on a qualifying team advancing. This years regional sites include Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course (Columbus, OH), The Rawls Course (Lubbock, TX), the University of Georgia Golf Course (Athens, GA) and the University of New Mexico Championship Course (Albuquerque, NM). Following the completion of regional play the advancing teams and players will move onto the NCAA Championship being hosted by Rich Harvest Farms from May 19-24 in Sugar Grove, IL. Athens Regional University of Georgia Golf Course, Athens, Ga. The par-72 layout will be played at 6,344 yards and it features four par-5's, included three on the second nine which could provide for some late round excitement. Opening in 1968 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course was established in hopes that it could support the University of Georgia's golf programs and also the school community. Renovated in 1990 by Dave Cousart, the course over the years has hosted a number of events including each year the Liz Murphey Women's Collegiate Classic, the PGA Junior Championship, the Men's and Women's SEC Championships and seven NCAA Division I Women's Championships, most recently in 2013. Columbus Regional Ohio State University Golf Club-Scarlet Course, Columbus, Ohio One of two courses on the property, the Scarlet Course is a par-72 track that will play at 6,416 yards for the regional. Recently renovated in 2006 by Jack Nicklaus, the course plays host each year to the Web.com's Children's Hospital Championship. Lubbock Regional The Rawls Course, Lubbock, Texas Designed by Tom Doak, the par-72 layout was opened in 2003 and the course was shaped in an effort to, "mimic the land east and west of Lubbock." Players will have to deal with 96 bunkers littered throughout the course and up to 30 feet of elevation change. Albuquerque Regional University of New Mexico Championship Course, Albuquerque, NM Opened in 1967 and designed by Robert Lawrence, the University of New Mexico Championship Course is a par-72 course that will be played at 6,637 yards.
