Jake Lewis didn’t blink when it got tight late.

The UNC Greensboro sophomore from Cary, North Carolina, fired a bogey-free 65 to win the men’s title at the 17th Carolinas Young Amateur Championship at Mid South Club, finishing at 11-under.

Lewis created separation with an eagle at the par-5 15th, giving himself breathing room as the final groups tried to chase him down.
“I got off to a good start on day two, I just tried to stay within myself and do what I do,” Lewis said. “It feels good to have a confidence boost with a win like this.”

He finished three clear of Robert Thompson (Charlotte, N.C.) and Lucas Acevedo (Charleston, S.C.), who tied for second at 8-under. Thompson set the early pace with a first-round 7-under 64, but Lewis stayed steady and finished the job with a clean closing round.

On the women’s side, Sydney Roberts, a Clemson senior and a member of the 2023 ACC Championship-winning team, went wire-to-wire to win at even-par, sealing her second Carolinas Young Amateur title after also winning in 2024.

Roberts opened with a bogey-free 69 — the only under-par round in the women’s field in round one — and then held on through cold, windy conditions on the final day.
“I think just trying to battle through the coldness and the wind was what I did,” Roberts said. “I putted pretty well yesterday, didn’t putt as well today but I hung in there.”
Jillian Fatkin (Oak Island, N.C.) finished second at 3-over, highlighted by a second-round 69, the only under-par score in the women’s division.
