Round of a Lifetime (so far) with Robert Evans

Scorecard Spotlight: A Career-Low 62 from AmateurGolf.com’s Own Robert Evans
At AmateurGolf.com, we’ve always believed that to truly cover the competitive amateur game, you need to live it. Our lead software developer, Robert Evans, more than fits that mold — in fact, he may be setting the bar a little too high.
When he told me about his recent career-low round and sent the scorecard to prove it, I started to wonder if we were taking “scratch player in key positions” a little too literally. Just kidding, of course — but a 62? Holy cow.
Robert lives in Austin, Texas, and when he’s not building the digital backbone of AmateurGolf.com, he’s out walking the walk (and apparently shooting the lights out). We’ll be doing a full Q&A with him soon as part of our new “Meet the Team” series, where everyone will answer some of the same questions — like how many holes-in-one (or is it holes in one?) they’ve had — along with a few personal twists.
But first, let’s take a look at that incredible round.
Scorecard Analysis: Robert’s 62
Grey Rock Country Club — Austin, Texas Robert’s round is the kind of golf most players only dream about: consistent, composed, and blemish-free. Starting on the front nine, he went out in 31, carding five birdies and four pars — including a run of three straight birdies from Hole Nos. 2–4.
On the back nine, it looked like Robert’s hot hand was starting to cool down, after he made “just pars” on the first four holes. But then he chipped in on the 539-yard par 5 14th hole for eagle, birdied No. 15, and added two more on the last two holes for another 31. Hardly a pedestrian round.
If you’ve ever witnessed a round like this, you should know that rule number one is to keep things loose and not talk about what you’re witnessing. Texans know their golf, so it’s not surprising that Robert’s group followed this strategy.
“The other guys are basically my regular Sunday group,” he said. “They were pretty silent the last four or five holes.”
By the numbers:
- Eagles: 1
- Birdies: 8 total
- Pars: 10
- Bogeys: 0
Robert's Bogie Free Scorecard To put it in perspective, that’s 10-under par on a layout measuring roughly 6,400 yards from the blue tees — long enough to demand precision and patience. Even among scratch golfers, a 62 is elite territory. It’s not just about hitting it close; it’s about maintaining that razor-sharp focus for 18 holes.
What’s your low round? We would love to hear about it.
