Callaway's latest limited-edition golf balls celebrate each major championship with bold, city-inspired designs

Callaway’s Chrome Tour is already one of the most advanced tour golf balls on the market, but in 2025, the company has taken things a step further—by blending high-performance technology with cultural storytelling. The result is the Chrome Tour Major Series, a limited-edition collection of golf balls released in tandem with each of the four men’s major championships.

Each edition is built on the backbone of the Chrome Tour’s new performance platform, designed for better players who demand speed, feel, spin, and control from tee to green. But what makes the Major Series special isn’t just how it plays—it’s how it looks, and what it represents. These balls are tributes to the host cities and courses that define the season’s most iconic tournaments, transforming each release into a miniature celebration of place, culture, and championship tradition.

April: A Floral Homage to the Masters

April Floral Callaway Ball

The series opened in April with a design inspired by the pageantry and seasonal bloom of Augusta. Covered in a soft, springtime floral pattern, the April Major ball paid tribute to the Masters with elegant restraint. It was a visual nod to azaleas and the timeless aesthetic of Augusta National, a place where tradition and excellence bloom every April.

Players and fans alike responded to its beauty. For some, it was a collector's item; for others, it was a statement on the tee box during their own spring tournaments. Either way, it felt like a fitting beginning.

May: Charlotte’s “Queen City” Takes Center Stage

May Queen City Callaway Ball

In May, Callaway shifted from the botanical to the bold. The PGA Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, served as inspiration for a design that channeled the city’s identity as the “Queen City.” The ball featured crown icons, hornet motifs, and the unmistakable 704 area code—all woven into a crisp, contemporary design rooted in urban pride.

This edition was energetic, youthful, and unapologetically local. It embraced the spirit of Charlotte not just in name, but in personality—connecting the pulse of the city with the pressure and power of major championship golf.

June: A Steel City Statement for the U.S. Open at Oakmont

June Steel City Callaway Ball

The most recent release is a tribute to Pittsburgh, host city of the 2025 U.S. Open at the legendary Oakmont Country Club. This ball carries the industrial, grounded spirit of the Steel City, with design elements including the 412 area code, a nod to Pittsburgh’s 446 iconic bridges, the abbreviation PGH, and even the word “Yinz” in a sly nod to local slang.

Black and yellow dominate the color palette—mirroring the hues of Pittsburgh’s beloved sports teams—giving this edition a hard-nosed, confident aesthetic. Just like Oakmont itself, the ball is unapologetically tough, proudly steeped in tradition, and uniquely American.

July: What Might Be in Store for Royal Portrush

Speculative Portrush Callaway Ball Concept

With three out of four editions revealed, speculation turns to the final piece in the 2025 Major Series puzzle: the July release for The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Portrush is one of the most picturesque and dramatic venues in championship golf, perched along the windswept cliffs of County Antrim. After a stunning return in 2019, when Shane Lowry thrilled the home crowd with a memorable victory, the 153rd Open marks only the third time the championship has been played there—and anticipation is already building.

While Callaway hasn’t yet revealed the design, one can imagine a ball wrapped in deep ocean blues or sandy dune tones, perhaps with Celtic-inspired detailing or a silhouette of the Dunluce Castle ruins that watch over the course. It might include nods to Irish heritage, the Claret Jug, or even the number 153 to mark the historic return.

Whatever Callaway chooses, it will almost certainly capture the spirit of links golf, seaside unpredictability, and Open Championship lore.

A Story Told in Four Chapters

The Chrome Tour Major Series is not just a line of golf balls—it’s a story told in four chapters, each rooted in the geography, character, and emotion of the majors. It’s a way for players to connect to the tournaments they revere, not just by watching or dreaming, but by playing with something that brings that spirit to life. And when the final edition drops ahead of The Open, the series will have completed one of the most creative and culturally rich product releases in golf.

Let the countdown to Portrush begin.
