BYU carded rounds of 270-272-272 to shoot an incredible 50-under and win the Arizona N.I.T. at OMNI Tucson National.
According to BYU Athletics, the 50-under was the lowest 54-hole team score to par of the 21st century.
“We wanted to show that we are a top team in the country,” Simon Kwon told BYU Athletics after the round. “The last three weeks we have been grinding in our facility to prove that we could beat anyone in the country.”
Arizona finished in solo second place at 36-under, and New Mexico State finished in solo third place at 30-under. Loyola Marymount finished in solo fourth place at 27-under, and Iowa State finished in solo fifth place at 24-under.
In the individual competition, Paul Beauvy of Iowa State finished 15-under with rounds of 67-70-64 to secure the two-shot victory. Simon Kwon of BYU carded rounds of 68-68-67 to finish 13-under and finish in solo second place. He recorded 18 birdies in the tournament, tied for the most out of any player in the field.
Peter Kim of BYU carded rounds of 66-69-69 to get to 12-under and finish T3 with Johnny Walker of Arizona. Kim recorded his second top-3 finish of the season and recorded 17 birdies on the week.
“The weeks leading up to this tournament were filled with great practices as a team,” Peter Kim told BYU Athletics after the round. “We were competitive and intense, playing a bunch of up-and-down chipping matches with pressure. There were a few hiccups this week, but overall, we were dialed in and stuck to our game plan.”
