ANNIKA Intercollegiate Preview: South Carolina looks to defend their title

Seven ANNIKA Watch List players will tee it up, including European Ladies Amateur champion Louise Rydqvist

The ANNIKA Intercollegiate was founded in 2014. The 54-hole stroke play event is held annually at the Royal Golf Club in Minneapolis and features 12 Division I women’s programs in the country. There are six players competing who were recently named to the ANNIKA Fall Watch List.

When: September 9 - 11, 2024

Where: Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minnesota

Who is in the field: South Carolina, Oregon, Cal, Iowa State, Wake Forest, Duke, Arizona State, UCF, Clemson, UCLA, Purdue, Minnesota

What happened last year: South Carolina won the team title with a score of 26-under par. It was a three-horse race. Oregon finished three shots behind and Wake Forest finished in third at 22-under par and was 13 shots clear of fourth place San Jose. 

Louise Rydqvist led South Carolina to the team title and was one of four players to earn medalist honors. Phoebe Brinker (Duke), and Kiara Romero (Oregon) were the other three to finish at 8-under. That’s a sign of the strength of this field. 

Players on the ANNIKA Fall Watch List: 

Louise Rydqvist: The Swede won the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship this summer and reached the semi-final of the The Women’s Amateur Championship. She also made the cut in the AIG Women’s Open Championship. Last season for South Carolina Rydqvist averaged 71.14 strokes per round, the third lowest in South Carolina history and earned a WGCA All-American First Team selection.

Kiara Romero: The 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur champion had quite a first year in Eugene. She was named WGCA Co-Freshman of the Year and earned a WGCA All-American First Team selection. The true freshman set the Oregon single-season record with an incredible 70.84 scoring average across 31 rounds of stroke play.

Zoe Campos: Campos is kicking off her senior year at UCLA. She is two-time First Team All-American (WGCA and Golfweek). Her summer was eventful. She finished third in the U.S. Amateur stroke play before losing in the Round of 64. She was a big part of Team USA’s victory in the Palmer Cup and went 1-2-1 in the Curtis Cup. She won four times in her junior year and was an ANNIKA Award Top 10 Finalist. 

Carolina Chacarra: The final piece of Wake Forest's 2023 National Championship squad, Chacarra is the picture of consistency. She finished outside to top 21 just one time last season and had three top-5 finishes. Last season she earned  2024 All-ACC Team and 2024 WGCA All-American Honorable Mention selections and recorded a 71.04 stroke average over 23 rounds played.

Hannah Darling: The Scottish senior Earned All-America honors and was named First Team All-SEC for the third consecutive season after finishing second on the team with a 72.22 scoring average during her junior year. He recorded six top-20s, four top-10s and a pair of top-fives in 10 stroke play starts as well as a 3-2 record in match play. She was a pivotal member of the Curtis Cup winning team at Sunningdale and reached the Round of 32 in the U.S. Women’s Amateur. 

Francesca Fiorellini: The Italian freshman hopes to make a splash at UCLA this year. She’s the top ranked Italian woman amateur. She was the back-to-back winner of the Giuseppe Silva Trophy at the Italian National Ladies Amateur Match Play Championships in 2024 and 2023 and also won the 2023 Italian International Ladies Amateur Championships.
