Kyle Robinson is heading to the U.S. Amateur.
Robinson won the Arkansas State Amateur at Jonesboro Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark. Robinson won the Men's Division by three shots at 7-under, and Madison Holmes won the Women's Division by five shots at 7-over.
Robinson shot rounds of 69-67-70 to get to 7-under and slam the door on the rest of the field.
"I played well in the first round, and so the second round, I just tried to keep doing what I was doing," Robinson said. "I didn’t pay much attention to what anyone else was doing. I was just trying to focus on the shot in front of me and let the results take care of themself."
The course layout helped Robinson get off to a hot start in the opening round and never looked back.
"The front nine seemed to be a bit easier scoring-wise with the three-par 5s. So I just tried to get off to a good start, and I was lucky enough to do that. Then, going into the back nine, I definitely started to be more conservative with the lead that I had built up.
Robinson added, "Overall, the strategy was the same for the first nine holes or so, and then the mindset changed to trying to make as many pars as possible."
Stephen Cox finished in solo second place at 4-under, and Rhett South finished in solo third place at 3-under.
With the win, Robinson heads to the 2024 U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine Golf Club in August.
"I played in the U.S. Junior Amateur as a high schooler, but I’ve never been able to play the U.S. Amateur," Robinson said. "I know the USGA puts on a world-class event, so I am very excited to compete with some great players. Winning the state am is definitely something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, so to pull it off means a lot."
In the Women's Division, Madison Holmes shot consistent rounds of 72-74-74 to finish at 7-over. Maggie Huett finished in solo second place at 12-over, and Emmerson Doyle finished in solo third place at 13-over.
