Russell, who became the youngest player to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, receives an exemption to Detroit
At 15, Miles Russell made news in April when he became the youngest player to make the cut in the LECOM Suncoast Classic. Now, he will tee it up in the PGA Tour's Rocket Mortgage Classic from June 27-30.
Russell didn't wilt on the weekend on the Korn Ferry Tour; he finished in 20th place after rounds of 68-66-70-66.
"I am thankful to Rocket Mortgage for giving me the opportunity to make my PGA Tour debut," Russell said in a statement. "Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and test my game against the best players, and I'm looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month."
It's been a solid year for amateurs on the professional circuits. Blades Brown made the cut in the Myrtle Beach Classic, and Nick Dunlap won the American Express in February, becoming the first amateur to win on tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991.
Russell, a left-hander, missed qualifying for the Puerto Rico Open this spring in a Monday Qualifier. He is the youngest player to win the AGJA Player of the Year Award. In late 2023, he won the Junior Players Championship and the Boys' Junior PGA. This year, he was a runner-up in the South Beach Amateur and finished sixth in the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley.
Welcome to the @PGATOUR, Miles Russell!
