Nicholas Mathews of North Carolina State University rolled to a four-shot victory in the Mid Pines Invitational, also known as the Terrapin Amateur, at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club and Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
Mathews, the 2021 North Carolina Amateur winner, finished at 10-under with rounds of 68-67-70. He was the only golfer in the field to shoot all three rounds under par. Mathews's final round 2-under 70 saw him record four birdies, four bogeys, and an eagle to get him under par for the round.
This win caps off a solid 2023 campaign for Mathews as he looks ahead to spring golf, finishing T2 at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, T6 at the Rod Meyers Invitational, and T11 at the 2023 Carolina Amateur.
Mathews held the first-round lead at the Folds of Honor Collegiate.
