Carmen Griffiths summer holiday is off to a fantastic start.

Griffiths recently wrapped up her final exams and the University of Louisville and returned home to capture the Scottish Women's Amateur on Sunday at Ladybank Golf Club.

After defeating Megan Docherty, 7 and 6 in the semifinals, Griffiths trounced Rachael Livingstone, 6 and 5, in the final. Her win at Ladybank comes just two years after Griffiths won the Scottish Girls' Amateur, emulating the feat of Catriona Matthew who accomplished the rare double in 1986 at Nairn before adding the women’s crown five years later at Carnoustie.

“It feels amazing to be Scottish champion,” said Griffiths, who led Louisville in stroke average this past season. “I didn’t expect it, having not played on home soil since last summer, so it’s really nice to get the win."

Though her semifinal and championship matches were one-sided, Griffiths survived a tense quarterfinal match against Jen Saxton by making an eagle on the second playoff hole to defeat last year's St. Rule Trophy winner.

"That was the toughest match I've had in a while," said Griffiths. "When I won was the only time I was up in the game. I was dying most of the time but I brought it back on the last few holes."

Griffiths was pleased to see her hard work pay dividends, especially on her home soil.

"I’ve got here through a lot of hours in the gym and a lot of hours practicing. Being able to trust my game was a big thing for me.”

"It feels great to come back and win on home soil."
