Playing in a field that included Vegas golf legend Brady Exber, Ebalo picks up his first victory in a while
Kenny Ebalo took home a win at the Boulder City Amateur.
Shooting an opening round 71 (-1) on Sunday, Ebalo turned around on Monday with a three-under 69.
“Pretty cool to get back into competition,” Ebalo told AmateurGolf.com. “It took me a few holes to remember my routine, let alone be mentally ready for a tournament.”
Starting the day two shots behind legendary senior amateur Brady Exber, Ebalo clawed his way to the win. Starting hot with back-to-back birdies on the opening two holes, Ebalo traded bogeys and birdies on the front nine for a front nine 34 (-2). On the back nine, Ebalo bookended the bogeys on 10 and 18, rallying with three birdies through a four-hole stretch on holes 13-16.
Practicing social distancing during tournament play, Ebalo said that he is still trying to get used to putting with the pin in.
He was one of two golfers to finish under par on day two with Exber posting a 5-over 77 on Sunday, sliding back to a third-place finish. Aarjav Patel was the only other red number in the final round with a two-under 70. Patel started the day seven shots behind the leaders which gave Ebalo breathing room coming down the stretch.
Although he took the the Boulder City Amateur title, Ebalo went home empty-handed due to social distancing protocol. (Awards ceremonies aren't what they used to be in the post-COVID-19 era). Not to worry, Ebalo will receive the trophy and his first-place $200 winnings in the mail.
