California is the home state of both amateurgolf.com and the majority of our members, so it comes as no surprise that it is the state with the most detailed calendar and most extensive video coverage. Without further ado, let's take a quick look back at one of the most popular events in the state that has already passed, the Visa San Francisco City Championship (info, results) which regularly gathers the top players from all over the Bay Area. This year saw the crowning of the tournament's youngest-ever champion, 16-year-old Martin Trainer of Palo Alto, who topped former champion Randy Haag 2-up after 36 holes. We were on site for the Round of 16 and quarterfinals matches, providing video coverage.

Looking forward, we obviously start with U.S. Open (info, results) which will be held a few miles from amateurgolf.com headquarters at Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla. Although this event is nearly a completely professional affair, there are always a few amateurs who make it through the qualifying field. On just a slightly smaller scale is the amateurgolf.com California Mid-Am + Master and Senior (info, results, register) a statewide event that picks up where the California Golf Associations Amateur Championship leaves off.

Last former motorcycle racing champ Jason Pridmore won the overall title by three strokes. It was his second amateurgolf.com victory in as many tries.

Another professional major that welcomes the occasional amateur is the LPGA's Kraft Nabisco Championship (info, results), which last year saw two-time defending amateurgolf.com Women's Player-of-the-Year Stacy Lewis (profile) take a fifth-place finish.

Also taking place in the Golden State is one of the world's top junior gatherings, the Junior World Golf Championship (info, results) at Torrey Pines. Last year we were there to provide video coverage of Dylan Frittelli (now at the University of Texas) taking a five-stroke victory over Austin Cody of North Carolina.

We were also privileged to be the only media outlet to cover the Stocker Cup Invitational Golf Tournament (info, results) at the impressive Preserve Golf Club, where Canadian Craig Doell defeated Pat Tallent in the first playoff hole as we provided video coverage.

We will also be out with the video camera at this year's Alameda Commuters (info, results). The last two of the state's amateur majors are the Memorial Amateur (info, results) and California State Fair Men's Championship (info, results).

Below is a full calendar of the state's amateur events. Please note, some of the smaller city/county tournaments that usually play towards the end of the season have not yet set their 2008 dates. When we hear back from these tournaments we will update this calendar promptly. Also, because of the U.S. Open, the San Diego City Championship will not be held this year
