The 21-year-old won four times last year for LSU; he makes his professional debut this week

CARLSBAD, CA (October 23, 2017) – Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) today announced that it has signed 2017 NCAA Player of the Year Sam Burns to a staff pro agreement. The 21-year-old LSU alum turned professional last month, and he is making his professional PGA Tour debut this week at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Burns, as a sophomore, was the most dominant player in college golf during the 2016-17 season. He won 4 tournaments, including the David Toms Intercollegiate, the College All-America Classic, and the Baton Rouge Regional. In addition to winning the NCAA Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year, he was voted SEC Player of the Year and a 1st Team All-American. He also set the LSU single-season scoring record (70.04).

Burns also posted a T6 finish as an amateur at the Barbasol Championship in July. In fact, he posted 18 under par to set the single tournament scoring record (in relation to par) by an amateur in the history of the PGA Tour. Burns earned his spot in the field by winning the Barbasol Shootout in June, where he carded a 5-under 65 in the one-day event.

“I am so excited to join Callaway as I start my professional career,” Burns said. “I have been using their clubs and have seen just how good the performance is, especially in the driver and irons. I’m entering the next phase of my golf career with a lot of confidence.”

As a full Callaway Staffer, Burns will use Callaway clubs, balls, bag, gloves and an Odyssey Putter. He is currently playing a GBB Epic Driver, GBB Epic Fairway Wood, Apex Pro 16 Irons and an O-Works #7S Putter.

Burns will add to Callaway’s tremendous group of talented young players, a list that currently includes Patrick Reed, Daniel Berger, Adam Hadwin, Wesley Bryan, Ollie Schniederjans, Aaron Wise, Branden Grace, Thomas Pieters, Michelle Wie, Grayson Murray, Patrick Rodgers, Emiliano Grillo, and Maverick McNealy, who signed with Callaway earlier this month.
