(February 23, 2017) -- A staple of your Saturday morning foursome is coming to the big stage. This summer at the British Amateur in an effort to speed up play the R&A is implementing 'ready golf' for the 36-holes of stroke play qualifying. As reported by Martin Dempsey of the Scotsmen 'ready golf' will make its first appearance in a major amateur event this June when the British Amateur heads to Royal St. George's. “Pace of play is something that we’ve been talking about extensively in the last 12 months,” explained R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers. “The more evidence that I’ve seen this year, the more I’m going to continue talking about it because I think it is increasingly important to the development of the game." The implementation of 'ready golf' during stroke play is part of the R&A's effort to set an example in regards to pace of play and it is a recommendation that they have listed in their pace of play manual. Last year the Golfing Union of Ireland successfully experimented with 'ready golf' at the Irish Close Championship.
