Pfingsten Brothers Lead Grand View to NAIA Championship

SILVIS, IL (May 19, 2017) - The Pfingsten brothers, Myles and Mitch, led Grand View University to a NAIA National Championship on Wednesday, shooting the two best scores of the day and helping the Vikings erase a thirteen shot deficit at TPC Deer Run.
Myles, a senior, closed with a one-under 70 on the site of the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic,
while Mitch, a junior, shot a 71. Hunter Van Veen (77), Devon Woody (77) and Drew Slings are the other newest national champions.
The Vikings started the day 13 shots behind Cardinal Stritch University, but shot the low round of the day (295) by eight shots. Cardinal Stritch finished five shots back in second, with Texas Wesleyan finishing third, eight shots back.
Those three teams separated themselves from the rest of the field, as Dalton State and William Woods tied for fourth, fifteen shots behind Texas Wesleyan.
In the individual competition, Rowan Lester of Texas Wesleyan won the championship by three shots over Ben Cumberland, an individual representing the University of the Cumberlands, Lester shot rounds of 69-72-72-74 for a three-over 287 total. Myles Pfingsten finished solo third at 292, with brother Mitch tied sixth at 295.
Just the previous day, the Pfingsten brothers received the honor of being named to the NAIA PING All-North Region Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
