Beau Hossler wins Fred Haskins Award, Bronte Law wins Annika Award

Hossler and Law recognized as the most outstanding male and female Division I collegiate golfers for the 2015-'16 college golf season

ORLANDO, FL (June 7, 2016) -- Texas junior Beau Hossler and UCLA junior Bronte Law were announced tonight on Golf Central as winners of the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel and the ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M, respectively, recognizing the most outstanding male and female Division I collegiate golfers as voted on by their peers, coaches and golf media. FRED HASKINS AWARD PRESENTED BY STIFEL: Hossler, who recorded five wins and is a 2016 First Team All-American, helped his Texas Longhorns to advance to the team championship final against Oregon last week at the NCAA Men's Golf National Championships. "It's an amazing accomplishment and an honor to be here, said Hossler, speaking with Golf Channel's Steve Burkowski. "I really can't put into words the amount of work and effort that I've put in, but this wouldn't be made possible without everybody on my team, whether it be in Texas or back home in California. It's a huge honor for me to represent them and to be here today. "It is really special to see guys like Phil Mickelson and Ben Crenshaw and guys like that, and Maverick McNealy, one of my good friends winning last year," Hossler continued. "To be on the list forever with those guys is truly an honor." Hossler suffered a shoulder injury in the semifinal match against Southern California at last week's NCAA Golf National Championships, ultimately conceding his match in the team championship final against Texas due to the injury. Hossler announced on Golf Central that he will undergo shoulder surgery on Friday. "I had an MRI in Austin and I have a torn labrum," said Hossler. "Basically, I dislocated my shoulder on all four of those swings, so I will have to have surgery on Friday to repair that. The good news is now that I know what is going on, I am very optimistic that I am going to make a full recovery and my shoulder is going to be better than it has ever been. I have had a minor tear in the labrum probably for the majority - even potentially my entire - college career. It will be better than ever. "I am sitting in limbo a little bit," continued Hossler when discussing the potential of turning professional. "Obviously decisions need to be made. As you know there is a lot that goes into turning professional. I'm not willing to close out my college and amateur career before it's time. I'm not going to make a premature decision." "It is so exciting to coach somebody like Beau, who is extremely intelligent, physically gifted but also puts the work in," said Texas head coach John Fields. "There is no possible way that he could have achieved this amount of success and not have an incredible amount of work ethic. I see that every day, whether that is in school or golf." ANNIKA AWARD PRESENTED BY 3M: Law, who won three times this season and recorded eight top-10 finishes in 10 starts, also is a First Team All-American and helped the UCLA Bruins to advance to the semifinals for the 2016 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. She receives an exemption to compete in the 2016 Evian Championship, the final LPGA major of the year in September. "For me it is such an honor to be associated with Annika," said Law in an interview with Golf Channel's Lisa Cornwell. "All year it has really been my goal to win the ANNIKA Award. To see such good players win it in the previous two years, to be named the winner, it means so much. Not only because you are considered one of the best players in college golf, but the fact that it is voted for by your peers, the media, and all of the coaches. "I can't explain how proud I am to be a Bruin," Law continued. "It is something I never thought I would experience." "I've known Bronte since I was 17, and she is such a hard worker, a super intense competitor," said 2014 ANNIKA Award winner and former UCLA teammate Alison Lee. "I am super proud and she deserves everything with winning this this award." Voting for the ANNIKA and Fred Haskins Awards concluded at the end of the 2016 NCAA Women's and Men's Golf Championships, respectively. The Fred Haskins Commission, which for the past 45 years has overseen the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel, also oversees the ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M.
