ROCKVILLE, Mary. (Sept. 19, 2012) -- Stan Williams of River Creek Country Club fired a 35-36--71, one under par, to claim the first round lead in the 68th Metropolitan Senior Amateur at Woodmont Country Club's North Course on Wednesday, September 19th. Williams birdied holes 5, 6 and 7 on the front and then closed with a birdie on #18.
In second place two strokes behind are Mike Occi (Cattail Creek) with 36-36--72 and Marty West (Columbia) with 35-37--72. West won the recent Maryland Senior Amateur and qualified for the US Senior Amateur along with Occi. George Mavrikes (Congressional) recorded 36-28--74 for fourth place with Ben Clements (Hobbit's Glen) at fifth after 38-37--75 and Barry Flaer (Worthington Manor) at sixth with 36-40--76. Lurking in the background is Middle Atlantic Senior Amateur Champion Robert Morris who won that title at Bulle Rock with a closing seven-under par 72.
Final round play begins at 7:30 AM on Thursday, September 20th.
